If July were a cup of coffee, it would have been a double shot of espresso drunk all at once. What a crazy month, my friends! Between blowing out the candles for Bastardo Coffee Shop's 3rd anniversary and hosting an epic photography exhibition, we're still processing everything that happened. We didn't have time to breathe, but there was always time for a good coffee.
Blowing out three candles couldn't be a quick five-minute affair, so we decided to stretch the party out for three whole days.
We kicked off the celebrations by getting our hands dirty, literally, with a live pottery demonstration by Pássaro de Seda.
The next day, Uui supplied the goods for our breakfast, which turned out to be so superb that everyone wondered why we don't eat like that every day.
To close out the party with a bang, we handed the coffee machine controls over to Maurício Soares for a barista takeover. Coffee flowed non-stop all day, and the bar for next year's four-year party has been set ridiculously high.
And as if our anniversary wasn't enough to fill a month, July also brought an absolutely historic exhibition to our windows: "The Origins of Graffiti in New York through the photographic archive of Craig Castleman". We brought a piece of New York graffiti history and the essence of Big Apple street art to Bastardo, sharing a rare archive that allowed us to travel back to the roots of a movement that continues to shape urban culture worldwide.
This exhibition was only possible thanks to the research and curation of Mª Isabel Carrasco Castro, as well as the work of INDAGUE and Fundación Contorno Urbano in preserving and valuing this heritage.
July is over. We're still recovering, or at least that's what we say between coffees. But you can count on one thing, we still have a lot up our sleeves.
